PRIVACY POLICY Last updated: February 24, 2020 Contact: Ben Borgers This policy applies to all information collected or submitted on Alpine's website and our app, for mobile or any other devices and/or platforms. INFORMATION WE COLLECT When you log in to Alpine with your Follett Aspen credentials, your username, password, and the deployment URL (referring to which town you wish to use Alpine with) is stored using React Native's AsyncStorage technology on your phone. When you log out of the app, your username and password are removed from AsyncStorage. When you view your classes or assignments, your username, password, and deployment URL are retrieved from AsyncStorage and used to construct a request to our servers. The servers simulate a login to Follett Aspen's services, retrieve the information requested, and return it. We never store credentials, and a login to your account is only ever initiated from your mobile device. When you interact with the app, your username and deployment URL may be logged in order to provide analytics data. As you interact with the app, two further pieces of information may be stored within AsyncStorage locally on your mobile device: the latest grades for each of your classes, and the list of classes where grades have changed. The latest grades are used in order to perform a comparison when new grades are retrieved from the server. When a grade is determined to have changed, that class' name is added to a list of classes where grades have changed, in order to display a visual indicator that assignments in that class may have been modified. OTHER SERVICES Our app is built using Expo (expo.io), while its API (servers) are hosted by ZEIT (zeit.co). The analytics server is hosted by Glitch (glitch.com). INFORMATION USAGE We use the information we collect to operate and improve our website, apps, and customer support. We do not share personal information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to accomplish Alpine's functionality. We may disclose your information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal requirements; to exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud or abuse, violations of our policies; or to protect our rights and property. In the future, we may sell to, buy, merge with, or partner with other businesses. In such transactions, user information may be among the transferred assets. SECURITY We implement a variety of security measures to help keep your information secure. For instance, all communication with the app and website requires HTTPS (secure web requests). In addition, your password is never stored in a remote database that we operate. ACCESSING, CHANGING, OR DELETING INFORMATION If you would like to delete all of your information that Alpine holds, please use the contact information at the top of this document. Alpine may delete your information, or restrict your access to our services, at any time for any reason. These reasons may include technical needs, legal concerns, abuse prevention, removal of idle accounts, data loss, or any other reason. CHILDREN'S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION ACT COMPLIANCE We never collect or maintain information from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13. The services are directed towards U.S. high school students (ages 13 - 19). INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS OF INFORMATION Information may be processed, stored, and used outside of the country in which you are located. Data privacy laws vary across jurisdictions, and different laws may be applicable to your data depending on where it is processed, stored, or used. YOUR CONSENT By using our site or apps, you consent to our privacy policy.
